What I Won't Do as Your Health Coach (And Why That Matters)

When people hear the words health coach, they often have lots of questions.

Will I receive a meal plan?

Will I be told what supplements to take?

Will someone finally tell me exactly what I should be doing?

While there are many things I will do as your health coach, listen, educate, support and help you build lasting habits, there are also some things I certainly won't do.

And there's a good reason for each one.

I won't give you a meal plan

Meal plans can be helpful in certain situations, but they rarely teach people how to make confident decisions in everyday life.

Life isn't lived on paper.

There are birthdays, holidays, work lunches, family meals, busy evenings and weekends away.

Rather than handing you a plan to follow, I'd rather help you understand nutrition, develop practical skills and build habits that work in your real life.

My goal isn't dependence, it's confidence.

I won't diagnose medical conditions

As a health coach, I work within my professional scope of practice.

If you have symptoms that need investigating or require medical treatment, I'll always encourage you to speak with your GP or appropriate healthcare professional.

Health coaching works best alongside medical care, not instead of it.

I won't prescribe supplements

The supplement industry is enormous, and it can often feel like there's a pill or powder for every problem.

While supplements can sometimes be appropriate, prescribing is out of scope for me.

Instead, I focus on the foundations of health:

  • Nutrition

  • Sleep

  • Movement

  • Stress management

  • Lifestyle habits

These are often where the biggest and most sustainable improvements are made.

I won't focus on short-term results

Anyone can promise a quick fix.

But quick fixes rarely create lasting health.

I'm far more interested in helping you build habits that you'll still be using next year than helping you lose weight in the next three weeks.

Because sustainable change always beats temporary results.

I won't be available 24/7

Support is incredibly important.

So are healthy boundaries.

During our coaching relationship, you'll know when and how to reach me, and I'll be there to guide and encourage you.

But part of coaching is also helping you become more confident in making decisions independently.

The goal is to empower you, not create reliance on me.

I won't make decisions for you

One of the most important principles of coaching is that you remain in control.

I won't tell you what you have to do.

Instead, I'll ask questions, share evidence-based information, explore options with you and help you find solutions that genuinely fit your life.

After all, you're the person who knows your life best.

I won't claim one approach works for everyone

Social media is full of people claiming they've found the answer.

The best diet. The best exercise. The best morning routine.

The reality is that we're all different.

Our genetics, lifestyles, families, jobs, medical histories and personal preferences all influence our health.

That's why I don't believe in one-size-fits-all advice.

Health should always be personalised.

I won't do the work for you

This is perhaps the hardest truth of all.

I can't create change on your behalf.

I can educate you.

Support you.

Encourage you.

Help you overcome barriers.

Celebrate your successes.

But you're the one taking each step.

The good news?

That's exactly why the results last.

When you build the habits yourself, they become part of who you are, not something you've borrowed from someone else.

I won't use fear to motivate you

Fear can grab attention, but it rarely creates lasting behaviour change.

You won't hear me saying that one food is "toxic", that you've "damaged your metabolism", or that you've failed because life got busy.

Health isn't built through guilt or shame.

It's built through understanding, self-awareness and consistent, achievable actions.

I believe education creates confidence.

And confident people make better long-term decisions than frightened people.

So, what will I do?

I'll listen without judgement.

I'll help you understand your health.

I'll support you in building realistic habits.

I'll celebrate your progress.

I'll challenge your thinking when needed.

And I'll walk alongside you as you create meaningful, lasting change.

Because my goal isn't simply to help you feel healthier today.

It's to help you develop the knowledge, confidence and habits to support your health for years to come.
